I am Alex Guffey (she/her), a user experience engineer for Disney. My personal interests are film photography, video games, roller coasters, and cooking.
My ability to utilize frameworks and roll with the punches allows me to push out a presentable project in extremely short timelines. In the past, I have used this skill to show create web application prototypes, help creatives brainstorm blue sky concepts, and create interactives for client presentations.
One of the biggest challenges in large companies is presenting data sets in ways that are comprehensible. Interactive data analytics can help to foster better conversation and understanding of the data at hand. In the past, I have built interactive data visualizations that were utilized in client meetings, internal presentations, and in web applications.
Sometimes static content just does not cut it. Users have a large expectation of what websites will provide for them. Using my full-stack development capabilities, I have built websites that allow for unique user interaction and participation, as well as B2C and B2B hybrid mobile applications.
My favorite part of what I do is learning new things and challenging myself everyday. Many of the positions I have worked in required me to learn and build with new technologies. In the past, I have been thrown in the deep end to learn to work with virtual reality, augmented reality, internet of things, and wearables.
I am happiest at jobs that are at the intersection of code and design. The ability to do both allows me to create things that trigger the imagination and encourage blue sky thinking. I am mostly self-taught and enjoy constantly expanding my coding knowledge. In my previous professional lives, I have done front-end development for Apple, user experience design for Universal Parks & Resorts (Comcast), and web development for the Florida Space Institute.
