About Me

I am Alex Guffey (she/her), a senior user experience designer for the Walt Disney Company in Orlando, FL, designing websites and web applications. I am a designer with front-end development knowledge, and I use that focus to create design systems that are well thought through end-to-end.

My UX Philosophy

In my role, I seek to balance business goals, user needs, and what's feasible for engineering. I go out of my way to include everyone in the design process because diverse input leads to more thoughtful products. At the same time, I stay grounded in usability and accessibility. My approach is methodical and data-informed; every pixel I place is backed by research and design principles, and every feature I scope is done with respect for development time and technical constraints.

My Design System Philsophy

When I build design systems, my main goal is to unify design across teams. Designers often work in silos, which makes consistency tough, so I take the time to understand, collaborate, and align with other teams' design languages. By also working closely with developers and leaning into the tools and frameworks they already prefer, I help create systems that feel natural to adopt and actually bring fragmented design together.

I am happiest at jobs that are at the intersection of code and design. The ability to do both allows me to create things that are rooted in practicality and research, while still sparking joy by beauty. I am mostly self-taught and enjoy constantly expanding my coding knowledge. In some of my previous professional lives, I have led the modernization and redesign of the Disney Experience's corporate website and Disney Parks Blog, built rich, interactive presentations for IBM Research Think Lab, and created next-generation government web applications at Leidos.
